In 1931, British climber Frank Smith wandered into the Bhindar Valley of the Himalayas and found hundreds of plant species lining the ground there. He called the valley simply – the Valley of Flowers.

To get to the valley by yourself, start a hike from the town of Joshimath in Uttarakhand (a trip to the Himalayas from Rishikesh is long and tedious), follow the pilgrimage trail to the sacred lake Hem Kund. 6 km before the lake, turn onto the path to the valley. Stretching 10 km long and 2 km wide in August, the trail turns into a real kaleidoscope.

YOUR ADVENTURE: To see and feel the full floral spectacle of the valley

WHERE: Bhindar Valley, Uttarakhand

DATES: August – October
