The trees you cannot hold with your hands; emerald greenery that punctuates with the native ancient “master-trees”; the air filled with cleanness and freshness which make you feel like vertigo; a wish to scream out how happy you are about being here, a wish to touch the power of nature…

Well, this is how we can describe Sequoia National Park, founded back in 1890.

The trees that grow here have seen throughout their lives more than any long-liver known.

References about this national park:

Area – more than 1 600 км2.

  • Age of the eldest tree – more than 3 500 years.
  • Trees height – 70-80 meters.
  • Fauna – more than 260 species of vertebral (150 of the total amount are the rare ones).
  • Flora – more than 1200 species of plants.

Though, the statistics above tell you nothing until you take the first step on the “promised land”, the place is located on different climate zones and offers the tourist meet every each of them.

What is Sequoia National Park?

“This National Park – is the best idea anyone ever had in history. It’s absolutely democratic, absolutely American. It reflects the best we have and the whole nation has!” wrote Walles Stegner in 1983.
His words became the motto of the unique national and cultural reservation.
This place even turned to be Mecca of family and ecologic holiday, the local nature slightly pushes you to face your thoughts and timid attempts to find peace and harmony. There is more than 1 300 km of walking trails and each has its story. The Americans come here to relax their bodies and souls. The park has everything to make it true.

Here you can:

  • Try and go for a horse riding or mule riding.
  • Go fishing in silence
  • Ride on a bicycle on these walking trails.
  • Walk on foot trying to catch up every inch of beauty with never ending greed.
  • Take part in ski races.
  • Arrange a snow fight!
  • Go snowshoeing and many other different things

Having an easy walk do not be shy, whether you are lucky to meet a black bear calmly chewing leaves, a white-tailed deer crossing the road or a scouring coyote.

What can you observe in the park?

Well, if you are going for a walk to seek local see sights, this very list will certainly be in use.

I’ve been scuba diving in caves before, but diving with large Bull and possibly Tiger sharks was a big deal. These massive animals can grow 8 to 15 feet long and weigh hundreds of pounds.

Both have a history (however rare) of attacks on humans. But, as I’ve learned over & over again on my travels, breaking out of your comfort zone is a healthy thing to do.

Now if you didn’t already know, feeding sharks like this is a bit controversial. Some say that it trains them to associate humans with food, increasing the odds of an attack.

These diving trips pour much needed money into shark conservation & research projects. Without that money, shark populations around the world will continue to rapidly decline. If dive operators don’t pay to help save the sharks, who will? You? The government?

That’s wishful thinking in my opinion. It won’t happen.

The ONLY reason marine life is protected at Fiji’s Shark Reserve is because of the money flowing in from these dive trips. Beqa Adventure Divers teamed up with local villages to ban all fishing here in 2004. The result? A once dying reef is thriving and full of life again.
