El Cajas Park is a national park located in the mountains of Ecuador. It is located about 30 kilometers from the capital of Azuay province, Cuenca. The area of the park is 285 square kilometers and is located at an altitude of 3500 meters above ocean level. This is an amazing place where lakes and beautiful lagoons with blue water are located against the background of snow-capped mountains.

The name of the park comes from the Quechuan word, which means “access to the snow-capped peaks.” And the name is fully justified. There are enough snow-capped peaks in this place, because the highest mountain of the entire complex, which is called Three Crosses, is located at an altitude of 4500 meters. Upon arrival here, it may seem to a tourist that he was thrown a couple of thousand years into the past – so pure and untouched nature is here. In the morning, everything is covered in fog and there is a feeling that you need to step right on the clouds, but with the arrival of the day, more and more picturesque landscapes open up, which after visiting the complex it is impossible to forget.

Lake surface, blue water in lagoons, snow caps on the tops of high mountains – all this can be found in one place. By the way, El Cajas is quite a popular place for cycling. But not simple walks. Often the route originates here, in the park, and ends in Cuenca. The first part of the walk takes about four hours – it’s a trip through the park itself, after which tourists relax and unwind in one of their local restaurants. Here, in El Cajas, an incredible view opens to the eye of tourists. There are more than 250 lakes of different sizes in the park. Many rare and exotic plants grow around them. Also here you can meet many representatives of the animal world. At every step here you can meet a llama, a bunny or unusual birds. Those who have already been here say that every second there is an almost irresistible desire to capture every corner of this extremely beautiful and clean place.

Although, here’s a note for some tourists: those who are not used to being at high altitudes, or experiencing discomfort from staying in the mountains, it is better to refrain from visiting the park, as such tourists may suffer from a panic attack here. For everyone else, a visit to this national natural complex will bring only the most amazing impressions, because clean air, blue lakes and high mountains are what you need to relax, meditate and merge with nature.
