Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is associated with many tourists as the city of a thousand temples. We agree that going on an excursion from one temple to another is not very fun, and soon it just gets boring. I want other vivid impressions, and to see something unusual. Temple of the Golden Mountain
To begin with, it is worth going to the temple of the Golden Mountain in Bangkok (Wat Saket).
This is one of the most picturesque and peaceful places in the city. As a rule, there is no pandemonium of tourists here, and from the observation deck you can watch the city in all its glory.
Thai Venice
Bangkok can safely be called the Asian Venice, as the whole city is cut up by rivers and canals, tunnels. Therefore, river transport is developed here no worse than on Earth and is a kind of exotic. We advise you to take a river taxi along the klong canals to see the city from a different, unusual angle. By the way, such a pleasure will be quite inexpensive.
For example: It is convenient to get to Wat Pho, the Big Palace and Wat Arun Temple along the Chauprae River.
Royal Palace
The territory of the palace is conditionally divided into two parts: free and paid. In the free part, you can take a walk, take beautiful photos against the background of stupas and palaces, but you should definitely also visit the paid part. It is in it that the second significant landmark of Bangkok is located – the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Beyond the gates, an incredible beauty awaits the tourist: temples, palaces, shimmering in the sun with gold.
And the most incredible sight is an Emerald Buddha, only 45 cm tall, made of jade. It’s so small, but so majestic. The statue was discovered in 1436 and is considered the main mascot of the whole of Thailand.
Ancient Siam Miniature Park
On an area of 320 hectares there are copies of all the famous temples of the country, both existing and already lost. The territory of the park completely repeats the outline of Thailand.
Lumpini Park
The central park of the city, which is surrounded by skyscrapers on all sides. This is a real green oasis, where manicured lawns, blooming orchids, artificial ponds.
You should definitely take some bread with you to feed the carp or monitor lizards in the pond.
The Wax Museum of the famous Madame Tussauds
The museum is located in Siam Discovery. All halls are distributed by subject: politics, science and art, film and music stars.
Dream World Park
This is the largest amusement park in Thailand, which is located outside the city.
Safari World Park
A giant animal park, which can be called the Thai equivalent of an African safari. Animals in the park freely walk around the territory, and tourists travel in a closed bus, car, and only through the window can they view wildlife in the conditions of the city.
A separate part of the park is a marine park, where shows of dolphins, orangutans, bird stuntmen are held.
But the most popular places for selfies among tourists are:
- a place with a sentry in the Grand Palace
- the heel of the reclining Buddha in Wat Pho;
- the top of the Wat Arun temple, from which a beautiful panorama of the city opens. The best panoramic places also include: Roof Top Bar on the 83rd floor of the Baiyoke Sky Tower, Moon Bar – the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel and Sky Bar – the 63rd floor of the lebua hotel. Here, the views are sky-high, and the prices are the same, but exotic.
Shopping in Bangkok
It is worth adding a few words about shopping in Bangkok. Of course, this is not Milan or London, New York, but a huge assortment of things for a reasonable price will pleasantly please. From all this variety, you can find something interesting. It is better to look for elite brands in Siam Paragon and Gaysorn. Things at affordable prices can be found in Central World and MBK Center. For souvenirs, it is better to go to the streets of Khaosan (cheap hotels, bars, souvenir shops are densely located here) and Rambuttri, and on weekends – to the huge Chatuchak market, where you can buy everything from food to art objects, souvenirs, plants, pets.
Exotic are “floating” markets, where boats are used instead of a counter. The most popular of them are: Taling Chan, Damnoen Saduak. And the most extreme is the market on the railway track at Mae Klong station. Rails act as trading rows, and merchants then have time to remove their goods from the rails seconds before the appearance of the locomotive.
