Schiphol

We explain how you can get from Amsterdam airport to the city by train, bus and taxi: schedules, prices, stops, useful links.

Schiphol (AMS) is one of the best airports in Europe, it has received this title for 15 years in a row, which is impressive. It is home to airlines such as KML, Transavia and Martinair, and it is also used by low-cost airlines – for example, easyJet.

This is a very interesting airport: in addition to numerous cafes and shops, expositions are held here, there is a shopping center Schiphol Plaza and – most surprisingly – a registry office and a morgue.

The terminal is located at a distance of 17 km from the city and is connected to it by rail, you can also get there by bus. Below we will tell you in detail about all the ways to get from Amsterdam airport to the city center and suburbs.

The buses

Numerous buses of Schiphol Sternet, Zuidtangent and Interliner carriers run daily from Schiphol to the city and suburbs. All buses stop at the Schiphol Plaza Shopping Center, right in front of the arrival and departure halls.

You can get from the airport to the center of Amsterdam by bus No. 197 (Amsterdam Airport Express), which departs every 15 minutes from about 5 am to 00:30. The bus goes through Museumplein, Rijksmuseum and Leidseplein. A one-way ticket costs 5 euros. At night, the N97 bus runs along the same route, every hour from 1:27 to 4:27.

There is a 310 bus to the Amsterdam-South area, No. 69 to Sloterdijk, No. 300 to Amstelveen and Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA, No. 365 to Leiden, No. 361 to Noordwijk.

Bus shuttles

You can also get from Amsterdam Airport by shuttle bus – Schiphol Hotel Shuttle. They run from 6 am to 9:30 pm and take tourists to hotels. The bus stop (blue branded minibuses) is right in front of the terminal, on the A7 platform. The cost is about 17 euros.  In addition, some hotels organize their own transfers — find out about it in advance.

Trains

You can get from the airport to Amsterdam by both domestic and international trains. This is the most convenient way – without traffic jams, with comfort, and inexpensive. The railway station is located under the airport terminal.

Domestic trains connect Schiphol with the center of Amsterdam and with other cities in the Netherlands. Travel time – from 15 minutes (center) to 2 hours 40 minutes (Maastricht). The train goes to The Hague, Haarlem and Utrecht in 30, 40 and 50 minutes, respectively, to Rotterdam and Eindhoven – 1 and 1.5 hours.

The ticket price to the central station is 4.10 euros. Travel time is about 17 minutes. Trains run frequently both during the day and at night. You can buy train tickets at special yellow NS vending machines or at NS Dutch Railways counters in Schiphol Plaza or on the official website (you can also view the schedule there).

You can also get to Schiphol Airport from neighboring countries — for example, trains from Germany, Belgium and France stop at the station. The cost of a ticket from Berlin starts from 59 euros in the 2nd class. Travel time is about 6.5 hours. On a trip from Brussels to Amsterdam, you will have to spend from 29 euros, on the way — 2-3 hours.
