The architecture of religious buildings and monasteries most fully reflects the creative originality of architectural schools that have developed in various regions of Ukraine, the relationship between folk and professional architecture, the features of the originality of Ukrainian architecture,<\/p>\n

The end of the XVI – the beginning of the XVII century are characterized by the mutual influence of the architecture of wooden and stone churches, manifested primarily in the common principles of their three-dimensional structures.<\/p>\n

The simplest type of wooden temple \u2014 the “hut” \u2014 in stone architecture corresponded to the temple, the main one, elongated in plan, the room of which is covered with a vault; the reduced volumes of the apse and the narthex adjoin the ends of the room. Examples of structures of this type can be the Churches of the Transfiguration in Zaluzhye and in the monastery of Podgora near Terebovlya, the Elijah Church in Sub-Botovo and the Mikhailovskaya Church in Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky. Despite the commonality of the plan, each of these churches has its own compositional and stylistic features. If the appearance of the churches in Zaluzhye and Terebovlya is strict and monumental, then in the Subbotovskaya church it is enlivened by curved figured gables – roof gables. The St. Michael’s Church in Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky is even more elegant.
